Installing Mumble

Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming, which makes it a perfect solution for near real time audio for the Web Controlled Radio.

The W2LIE.net live scanner server has a built in delay because of the built in buffer.  The buffer can only be adjusted by so much.   While controlling a radio, 20 or more seconds of delay can cause a bit of trouble to the user.

We've decided to go with Mumble because it is free to operate and run as a server.  It is the same type of program as the more popular "Team Speak", and there is no licensing fee.

Mumble will work on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.

Downloading Mumble:

The Mumble application can be downloaded from their Sourcforge webpage located here:  [link]
Download the software for your operating system.

Installing Mumble:

The installation process of Mumble is pretty straight forward.  You will want to stick with all the default settings and then go through the audio setup.

Connecting with Mumble:

You'll want to setup a private server to connect to the W2LIE.net server.   The information is as follows:
Label: W2LIE.net
Address: remote.w2lie.net
port: 64738
User: Your W2LIE.net User Name

Or, you can click on the Listen Live link and look for MUMBLE under the Remote Radio.

Making it easy:

I've created a YouTube Video on how to install and use Mumble.   Watching this video will have you up and running in no time at all
