Hey Phil and the rest of you proficient in plane-tower communications. I recently programmed in a bunch of the local air frequencies, so I can pick up TRACON, JFK, LGA, etc. However, I really have no idea as to what they're saying, who operates on what frequency, etc. I know there are specific departure, arrival, approach, and tower frequencies, but I don't know much more than that. Any help on how to decode the audio I'm hearing on this band would be much appreciated

Thanks
Skyler

Skyler,
What terms are you looking for?

If you need a frequency list, here are my aviation lists: [link]

No, I have all the frequencies in my scanner. So many that I don't know exactly what I'm listening to all the time. I just don't understand the terms that the controllers and pilots use to communicate and what they say to each other.

Why don't you post some of terms you are hearing or think you are hearing. Deciphering one or two may lead you to "figure out" others you are having diffuculty with. Post as many as you'd like. As I'm sure you've seen, forum members are more than willing to help!

I know I'm responding to an old post but it may help others in the future. I know exactly what he's looking for & there is a book & a website that explains what he's hearing in simplified terms not the complex mid to expert level terms required to pass flight exams. I'll do some more digging for the website but here goes with what I found now, couldn't hurt, he's probably already a pilot by now anyway.
