Rather than program a system, first I looked up the FCC licences for all the frequencies listed on the old Fordyce.org db. Most of them are now being used by MTA bus and other agencies. Next, I just scanned the range of 935MHz to 940MHz and got no hits after about 45mins.

I entered all the frequency as a conventional sys and have had no hits from east islip.

I’m interested in programming-in this system into my 996XT. I noticed that the four sites (Hauppauge, Jamesport, Wading River and Riverhead) all have the same frequencies:

936.0000
936.9000
938.1750
939.9250

To accomplish this goal, I think all I have to do is create a “MOT II” system, then select “Mot 900MHZ Band” for Site Type, then enter in these frequencies. Next, I think I need to put the scanner in ID search. Do I have this correct so far?

On the other hand: I'm not even sure why I picked MOT II for starters...

It could be anything, right?

That's one of the things that I miss about the PRO-163. You could just scan a range of frequencies, and when it found something it would display what kind of signal it was. Something like ED, MOT, LTR etc would show up on the screen. I'm not sure that my 996XT has that cool feature...

Does anyone know how one can know what type of TRS a system would be?

You could use a Trunk analyzer like UniTrunker. I don't hear anything on those 4 frequencies, do you?

1. Sorry, totally unfamiliar with trunking software.
2. Didn't hear a thing.

I heard something today!

While scanning this system earlier today I saw TGID 704. There was someone playing what sounded like opera music....???? Weird. It came on a few times. Is there ANY possibility that a TV signal image can somehow project itself onto a trunked 900MHz system AND cause a scanner to display a TG?

Enter the freqs as conventional and if you don't hear a control channel, it's kind of pointless to go any further. If your hearing voice on them and no control channel, someone else may be using the freqs. Multiple users can use the same freqs.

Actually I do hear a CC. When I press the HOLD button on my 996XT, the scanner stops on one of those frequencies and, to my somewhat trained ear, sounds a heck of a lot like a traditional Motorola CC. So, I'm starting to think that the TG traffic I got was real....
