Last night for the first time in ages I heard Malverne PD on their old VHF channel (155.1300MHz, PL 131.8).
Didn't they abandon this channel and go on the county 500MHz system encrypted?

Malverne's talk group has been pretty quiet lately. The only logs I am seeing for the TG are radios joining, not calling. |

What does that mean "joining"? |

The radios are joining a talk group. Ex. Radio dial is turned to Talk Group 1. System says, you are ok to be here, and the radio Joins the talk group. Just the opposite would be if the Radio dial is turned to talk group 2. System says you can't be here and issues a denied response.
That is the simple answer. |

Phil,
Thanks, but why are they joining it if they're not actually talking on it? I must be missing something...

They could be listening. All the "join" means is that your radio is ok to affiliate with that talk group. |
