How would Nassau FD's that dispatch themselves handle multiple calls at once? (Bonus question below) |

| I would assume that most self-dispatching FD's only have one dispatcher on duty at any given time (correct me if I'm wrong), since more than that would probably be unnecessary 99.9% of the time (since they would probably not have much to do).
What if an FD gets multiple calls at once (separate emergencies or many calls for the same emergency) while they're really only prepared for 1 (or maybe 2) calls at a time?
Can they automatically forward those calls to Firecom or 911? Or do they have to put people on hold while they take each call?
Bonus question: Even with just one call, doesn't the dispatcher have to talk the to caller, send units, and monitor the radios all by themselves? Is that tricky or is it not hard to do?
Thanks.

| | I've done something similar for a PD in Northern Virginia. Officers, multiple radios, emergency and non-emergency calls. Solo is hard. | | Back to top | | |
