Looks like the FCC has authorized the MTA to use NXDN on their UHF Frequencies.    I've heard that all RailRoad was supposed to move over to this and it looks like LIRR is on their way.

Wonder how long this will take to roll out. Also wonder will these be conventional or trunked? I guess time will tell. I hope they add more locations. The closest, and its not really that close to me is Central Islip.

There are also more licenses that reflect NEXEDGE that are not listed here. I will try to post them later.

The AOR AR-DV1 will handle NXDN for around $1200.00

From what I have read it looks like an Icom IC-F3161DT with rr (rail road) version firmware will work as seen here if programmed correctly. [link]

The cheapest option is sdr with an 8 dollar dongle for conventional or 2 dongles for trunked NEXEDGE / NXDN

It also looks like they pretty much just removed the old wideband emission from their licenses...

Its probobly going to take quite some time for the MTA to transition fully to Nexedge as there are A LOT of radios in question
I do know that they use a mix of Kenwoods and Motorolas at the moment - what i dont know is if some of the newer radios can do both analog as well as digital voice and just need to be reprogrammed and whatnot - but before there are any changes there will probobly be a major overhaul of the entire infrastructure to troubleshoot things such as coverage problems, etc

I heard a rumor that the reason behind the whole Nexedge/Railroad thing is that for whatever reason Motorola didnt want to deal with railroads anymore...

Thanks for the info on the hardware options. It's too bad the AOR doesn't do P25 II or trunking.
As far as the Icom units those seem like realistic, well-priced units pushed into dedicated RR monitoring.
I could never see me spending $1200 just to listen to RR...

I was out in Nassau the other day. I had to lock out these 2 freqs in my 436 because there was some kind of "other modulation on these". I was driving and did not have my laptop or dsd plus to investigate. As mentioned above, some of the UHF freqs now contain nexedge emissions.

Can someone plug them in and see what you get? I traveled 495 LIE from East Islip to Great Neck. Had to lock them out around maybe 135 and 106/107

I have been getting MotoTrbo on 452.8625 for some time - but i havent really figured out what/who is using that freq...

Those 452 freqs. were vehicle repeaters a while back - i dont think they are used in that respect anymore however i think the MTA may use simplex portables on 457mhz...

452.8625 [link] shows nexedge. I wish I had time that day to fire up dsd.. I really not sure when they updated all their freqs but hopefully when all is done, I will be able to hear them better..
