So i passed by Bellmore again and the tower is definitely gone - I wonder if they are going to put up a new one or what...
Also i noticed that the sign now just says "National Grid" and not PSEG so maybe only the gas trucks will be out of that base?

I heard some type of beeps on 456.950 - it was just more so "beep" type tones not so much a data burst like i heard on the other freq...

The other day was the first time i got activity on 160.425 PL100.0
It sounded a bit low powered/distant - seems like it was more of a unit to unit type thing
160.425 is licensed for mobile use all across the island and bases mainly in Suffolk as well as Far Rockaway oddly enough...
WQUJ815 - Long Island Power Authority
KNEB740 - Long Island Power Authority
KNHH280 - Long Island Power Authority
WRY349 - Long Island Power Authority
KNEB738 - Long Island Power Authority

Attached is a recording of the data noises i hear on 467.750(the recording is actually from a different freq but its the same sound)...

I found out that those data noises are most likely some type of pager data
There is SDR software that you can get to decode such - but im pretty sure thats illegal...

This morning i picked up what sounded like a Motorola control channel on 938.175 which is part of the mysterious trunk system
896-901/935-940 MHz, Trunked License - WPUG698 - Long Island Power Authority

I have had those freqs in the radio for a while but this is the first time i picked up anything...

Pager decode is cool if you just want to see what it is being used for in the event you cant locate a license for a freq. I myself would not find any pleasure in seeing messages between people I do not know. If it was being used as a dispatch service, than that's a different story. But the freq would have to be limited to just 1 company.

I remember years ago when pagers were all over that those freqs for the larger pager companies were NONSTOP. You very rarely heard a break in between transmissions.. I still have my pagers somewhere.

I do not believe decoding it is against the law. A simple Google search for pager decode software. [link]

Yeah i didnt think anyone used pagers anymore outside of firefighters/paramedics
"In the day" the beeper or pager would go off then we would run to the nearest payphone

It wouldnt suprise me if a company like PSEG is indeed using pagers
Picking up that control channel from the trunk system has intrigued me so i will probobly put the base freqs in as a Moto trunk system and see what happens...

Does National Grid in Eastern Suffolk County use a VHF Low Band frequency for dispatch purposes? Most of their trucks what appears to be a VHF Low Band antenna. Please provide the frequency if known?

Nat.Grid actually has a few low band freqs. that are licensed for state-wide use
KEC307 - National Grid USA Service Company Inc
But i never got any activity from them on lowband
Most of their stuff is in the 153-158mhz range

^ Very nice find

Yeah they did have a license for some other 900mhz trunk for a while but i never got any voice on it however i did pick up what sounded like a motorola CC at times - but it was only one site(i think)
Not sure if they are more or less just building out the system a bit more or what but it would be cool to see them go to a repeater or trunk system as the simplex system while it seems to be efficient it is dated and all i can say is since they took the bellmore tower down the coverage has been mediocre at best...

That aside a tower being taken down could mean some future plans so stay tuned

Heres a little further on this - [link]

Looks like it will most likely be P25 Phase 2
Nice

And it will definitely help for interop with New Jersey units because im pretty sure they are on 900mhz trunked as well

Sounds like it should be a robust system but do expect some rate hikes in the next few years folks
