Darkstar350 wrote ... yep digital on low band is pretty much useless aside from special military ops or whatever Once upon a time it may have been a good idea to expand on but unfortunately low band is somewhat on its way out in regard to public safety at least If i was designing a radio system i would see a "gold mine" in low band You can have high power and its relatively easy to find low band equipment The only real drawback is antenna size especially in urban areas the antennas may hit low power lines or tunnels/overpasses,etc
Unless you're talking the 108" CB style low band antenna a 1/4 wave base loaded low band mobile antenna covering 30 MHz to 50 MHz is generally only 49" tall give or take & if whip damage at that length is a critical issue they offer 4" slim line shock springs which I believe is overkill on a 1/4 wave base loaded mobile antenna unless you are mounting it on the roof of your vehicle. Right now low band is the perfect fit for a group of hobby types to start up a paper corporation, procure licenses & spool up a local, regional or even a nationwide low band network with very little effort or major cost factor since each member would fund his own station or interference on nearby systems since nobody for the most part uses low band anymore. Only problem is the FCC has now mandated that you must use a frequency coordinator but the group can split the cost.
