I have a motherboard G840 2.8ghz CPU. The book says it,
- Supports 3rd and 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 / i5 / i3 / Xeon® / Pentium® / Celeron® in LGA1155 Package
- Supports Intel® Turbo Boost 2.0 Technology
- Supports Hyper-Threading Technology

The last pc I built ran XP when it first came out and I have not a clue as to whats good hardware these days.

I would like a faster CPU thats cheap price wise. I use this PC to run sdr programs and the CPU is almost waxed at times.

Anyone able to shed some light on today's, and last years CPU's?

Thanks

Multi core CPU and lots of RAM is my suggestion. I would search online to see which processors are highly rated. You may have to upgrade your hardware.

You should ask the guys over on the UniTrunker Google Group what they are running for their SDR setups.

I know they stress how the USB Channels are built in the hardware.

I need to build a SDR Computer as well. Maybe we learn a thing or two together.

Phil I got 2 dell towers coming from a friend and know one is Pentium 4 with half gig of ram. (i may have more ram for that) I also have my old tower that was used for gaming, back in the day. It was, in its day, a scream machine. Bot as of late, I have been very distracted with Linux. Got my win 7 win 10 laptop set up now as Ubuntu and win 10. Ditched win 7. Got op25, gqrx, sdrtrunk (not working with Suffolk 800 anymore) trunk recorder and trunk player all set up. What I want to do, is see how to clone Ubuntu and install on any of the older thing I have and see if it works. Looking to have my own trunk recorder server running. I was in a rush to get op25 running in the event our county starts migrating users over to 700. In any event, today is another nice day so time to run my errands. I will post results of linux on these towers as soon as I get them set up..

Please keep us in the loop. Maybe I'll have to have you as a guest on Scanner School and you can talk about the Linux Setup and how to configure OP25.
