i got a quick question when nassau county pd is coming back is it coming back any time soon
I doubt NCPD will ever go back in the clear with the exception of possibly some interop channels but thats just my opinion Its not the worst idea in the world for a police dept. to have some encrypted channels and some clear channels but again my opinion.. Supposedly they will switch to a 700mhz system so at that point they will have to program all new radios with new encryption keys unless they get dual band radios or something so i suppose its anyones guess what will happen in the future...

My guess is that once they have “gone encrypt” like so many other agencies across the country they’ll fight tooth and nail to stay that way. They don’t want “us” hearing what they talk about. I can only imagine what goes on now that the general public has been rendered deaf to what they say. |

The way i understand its basically a liability thing And also we are living in the era of identity theft so its understandable why PD wants to encrypt due to saying social sec. numbers over the air , etc
Also while on the topic of the 1st and 7th pct - recently i saw a few cars in that area with 4 digit numbers that started with the number 4 Looked just like regular patrol cars just with the 4xxx number Anyone know what type of units these are? Maybe just spare cars?...

Yes, the 4200s are spares. I believe one of the last 2 digits indicates the precinct. |

Yes they are spare cars.
Example if the 1st ct had 3 spare cares they would be 4201, 4211, 4221. if it was the 7th Pct they would be 4207, 4217, 4227.
I don't know how many each precinct has, but that is how the numbers would be. |

The Police department can issue radios to the media or whoever they deem necessary. Just a thought, I don't know if NCPD does this or not. |

I cant see any PD giving an encrypted radio to a news outlet unless they were connected some how - after all that is one of the reasons for encryption in the first place so news/buffs would not hear the police that way they cant put their own spin on what they would be hearing
But i think there is a plan for every fire dept in nassau to be given at least one police radio eventually possibly to hear whatever pct. the FD is in , etc...
