Today, for the first time in like forever, my Uniden scanner picked up activity on TGID 4004. However, there was no audio. My BCD396XT will mute audio if it's from an encrypted source, so it seems it was. However, I thought this was a non-encrypted channel? Does anyone know if fire comms will all be encrypted on this 500MHz system?
FWIW, all MEDCOM and fire marshall stuff is still in the clear.

Thanks.

Before jumping to any conclusions, ask yourself the following:

a) how many transmissions occurred?
b) what was the duration of each transmission?
c) was it the same user ID for each transmission?
d) over what span of time was this activity occurring?

It could've just been someone keying up a radio without saying anything.

a) Four.
b) Only about 5-6 seconds each for a couple, the other two about 20 seconds.
c) Unfortunately I did not take note of the RID.
d) They all occurred within a couple of minutes of each other.

Hmm, at this point I'd lean more towards key ups without saying anything. Further observation required before reaching a conclusion.

I loaded up this system yesterday when I saw this post and have not seen any activity since then and now @ 9 35 am. I did that because I have many rid's logged and labeled and could have maybe at least narrowed it down from rid. I will leave it running and see what happens. What time did this take place?

I'm pretty sure that the battalion talkgroups are not encrypted.

I’ll have to guess, but I think it was around 11AM.

I haven’t seen any activity on any NCFD battalion channels since then. Just MEDCOM, fire marshall and FD ambulance/EMT comms.

The only encryption i think on Nassau 500 is only pd. Ask someone to do a sig 15 with a 500 radio and see what happens.
