I've been very carefully recording hundreds of Nassau County ambulance RIDs for the past couple of years but sometimes they change. For example, I can record a specific RID# for, say "Ambulance 2360" and alpha tag it appropriately. It works fine for a while, and then one day when a user pops up on that tag they'll say, for example, "MEDCOM 2375" or any other ambulance number. I change the RID and tag to match, then it happens again maybe a week or a month later.
Any idea what's going on? Are they swapping out radios from one ambulance to another?

| Are you 100% certain that these are mobile radios you're aliasing, and not portables? Personally issued portables and/or portables that are normally assigned to a particular rig, but might get swapped around from time to time, would certainly explain the semi-frequent change in aliases. |

No, I’m not certain at all, I actually never even thought about portables. Good point. Thanks!
I don’t know if there is a way of telling if a radio is hard-installed in a rig versus portable by looking at the RID.

Usually they are using the vehicle radio. They may be using Ambulance 2392 on 2362's post so you will see ID xxxx23922, but the medic will say 2362.
I don't have the radio ID's in front of me but the ID's are the vehicle that they are using. The radio in the front will id with a 1 at the end and the radio in the patient area id's with a 2 suffix.
Could this be what you are seeing?

Actually I do know that most of the time the unit numbers definitely show up somewhere in the whole RID integer string. However, I’ve seen cases where the numbers are totally different. For example, I’ve seen cases, say “Unit 2364” have a RID that doesnt even contain “2364” anywhere in the RID but instead will contain something like, say “2380.” Again, I’ll have to review.

It has been a long time since I looked at my Nassau RID file, but from what I recall from the last digit:
0 = Portable
1 = Mobile
2 = EMS Patient Area |

Mobile: Up front in the area by the driver?
EMS Patient Area: In the back where the patient/gurney is? |

LIScanner - I got a chance to look at the UID's
The unit ID's on the ambulances are as follows:
Ambulances vehicle mounted radios will ID as 1923xx1 (cab) or 1923xx2 (pt area)
So if Ambulance 2352 comes up on the Med 1 talkgroup it will ID as 1923522 (This would be the patient area radio)
If there was another actual vehicle acting as 2352 - Lets say 2395 is the replacement vehicle. The medic will still say "2352" but the UID will be 1923952.
I hope that clears up why you may see different UID;s on the medical control talkgroups. |
