Anybody own and using an HP2 for the Suffolk P25? Have a friend inquiring that doesn’t want to spend the money on an SDS200 despite my advice... Wondering how it performs decoding the P25 Digital signal when monitoring only 1 site.

Define "1 site". The Port Jefferson and 1st Precinct sites are single standalone site, which any digital scanner should decode fine, however the other "sites" are actually simulcast cells, which are notorious for giving most scanners are hard time. If you're lucky enough to be extremely close to one of the simulcast cell subsites, the signal may be strong enough to drown out the other subsites, and decoding may be acceptable, but it's a crapshoot.

I am pretty lucky with my 436. I am in the area of the yellow on the map (Islip Terrace) and closer to Hauppauge tower so site 4 comes in real good for me. Does suck when heading East on Sunrise between like Sycamore and Lincoln Avenue's. It gets real bad and cant make out anything. That's like the midway point between Hauppauge and Farmingville.

I had the HP2 and found the reception for Suffolk P25 to be very hit or miss. Get the sds100 or sds200. Pricey yes, but worth it
