Hi all, I just bought a BC346XTC scanner and need an antenna for it. I want to scan primarily Nassau FD, Suffolk FD and PD. I get Suffolk PD just fine. It would also be nice to get the city pd and fire/ems. I live in Melville. What's best and cheapest way to do so? I would prefer to just use a portable if possible. If not I can't put one outside, so it would need to be an attic or window mounted one. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I covered this exact topic a few months back in an article I wrote for FD Rant News. For a portable antenna for that radio I would suggest a Diamond SRH77CA. Your best best would be to get something either in the attic or outside.
Since outdoors is out of the question, you might be able to place a discone antenna on the floor in your attic, and then run the coax down to your scanner. I use a discone in my attic with some of my radios and it does get me most of Nassau, part of Suffolk, and into the City. YMMV with your location and attic height (I have a ranch).

Do you have a link for the article? If I just get the portable what do figure my range would be?

Isn't the RS 800 primarily for 800 mhz? Will also pick up all the other ranges on the island? Does the RS mag mount do well to pick up all ranges? Thanks |

Looking to buy a exterior base antenna and mounting equipment. Does anyone know of any stores on the Island that would provide the materials? Trying to shop local other then just order on Amazon. Thanks |
