After living on Long Island all of my life I moved with my family down to Florida 3 years ago. Unfortunately, in the FL county I live in, all PD and FD is encrypted so I’ve pretty much given up on the scanning hobby for home use (sadly). I travel for work, so when I visit other cities I always bring my scanner and pack a couple of antennas. It’s pretty cool hearing public safety comms all over the country.
I decided to stop by this site just for old times’ sake. To say this place is quiet is an understatement. What’s going on with PD and FD scanning on Long Island? Is everything moving torwards encryption?

I agree about Gen Z, but most of us scanning enthusiasts are not Gen Z. If less of “us” are on does that mean the hobby is waning?
