I have a uniden BC246T handheld scanner, I know that SCPD uses trunk-tracking now, i have been listening to the live scanners online but would like to get it on my handheld now, I would mainly like to hear the 5th precinct since i live in their district, does anybody have the codes for them, and also how do i input them into the scanner, thanks

You have a few options. Try searching the forums here as I recall there was a question previously asked about the Suffolk County trunked system. programming the trunked system requires you to add several 800mhz frequencies into the scanner in order (I don't remember if you need them in order but it cant hurt). You can find those frequencies at [link] After successfully adding those frequencies, you'll need to find the individual precinct ID's and enter the ones you are interested in. They are called talkgroups and can be found at [link] If you are still having trouble or don't want to be bothered trying to program the scanner, contact w2lie as he has a programming service he offers.

If you want to program the radio yourself, I recommend you get a programming cable and programming software. Trying to program trunk systems from the radio's keypad is TORTURE, IMHO. I used freeware, called FreeSCAN, found here [link], to program the BC15T's at my firehouse. The frequencies and talkgroup ID's can all be found here [link] , and the program allows you to "grab" the info and plug it right into the program, further decreasing the need to type everything. Other software is available from BuTel and ScanCat for a fee. Good luck!
