Nassau County ARES and Nassau County SKYWARN will participate in a Simulated Emergency Drill this Saturday morning. The drill is set to start at 7:30am and will run a few hours until about noon.
For anyone interested in how Amateur Radio helps serve the community - this will be an excellent chance for you to listen in on the action.
There will be spotters out in the field giving weather reports and sending data back to the National Weather Service. There will be units in the field who will be setting up mock shelters, helping Fire Coordinators, and working direclty with the Red Cross.
The following frequencies will be in use for the drill: SKYWARN: 146.805 and 147.135 ARES: 443.525 For those of you outside the coveage area of the repeaters, there will be a live feed running on W2LIE on the special feed. SKYWARN and ARES will be running toghether on the same feed, but one will be on the left speaker, and the other will be on the right speaker.
This drill will also test some of the Digital modes used by Amateur Radio Operators. We will be testing APRS, WinLink, and D-STAR. Anyone who would like to track the APRS stations, can try this link: [link]
