Fire Department Ambulances are in the process of having radios installed. This will allow them to make the move to the P25 system to communicate with Medcom.

East Norwich is the first department that I've heard on 6001 giving a heads up to Medcom. I would expect to see a few more departments coming on board soon.

Until the non NCPD ambulances are outfitted with the new radios, the non NCPD units will use the (old) medical control channels. (Med 9 & 10) - The county will probably have to use the Med channels for ALS runs (they cannot send the ECG lead 2 over the P25 system) to my knowledge, at this time.

Encrypted Talk Group 1080 is active this morning with a lot of Radio IDs that start with a 1997###. This talk group pops up on the system every now and then, and at best guess I could just assume it was NCPD. The UIDs starting with 199 have typically been assigned to BSO, K9, and some ESU.

Today, I see a UID that I once tagged as Humvee-8. This could indicate an ESU Tactical channel, but it could just be a portable radio that was once used in the Humvee, and it is now being used for something else.

I'm not sure what this signifies. Does the verbiage at the end of the section indicate that the UHF frequencies will need to be given up by Nassau County and returned to the spectrum?

This morning Hempstead PD started simulcasting their VHF Dispatch (154.7100) onto the Nassau P25 system (TG 20800).

I know we're not supposed to speculate or start rumors, but I don't know why they would do this unless this is a trial run of the system for them, and could signal the start of a switch from the VHF system to the TRS. I don't know what the benefit would be to simulcast in perpetuity.

Most of the villages operated in this fashion before moving over to the P25 system completely. They most likely want to see the coverage for themselves and look for any dead spots or spots with marginal coverage.   I use it to log the RIDs on the talk group as best as I can.  Either by department or RMP number.  This will help decipher the P25 talk groups in the future if I see the same Radio ID on another talk group.

Long Beach, for example, was on VHF and P25 before Hurricane Sandy. Once Sandy hit, they went completely back to VHF. They are now on VHF and P25 again, and have been for a few months.

Every once and a while you may here "go back to VHF" over the air. Sometimes the department gives up on the P25 and moves back to VHF, only to return to P25 at a later date.

Eventually, in the end, the simulcast is turned down.

It would be quite a loss to lose that system to encryption. It's extremely active and there's always something going on.
