I stopped being a buff many many years ago, but the other day I dug out my scanner from the depths of my closet. It's a Uniden Bearcat BC 70xlt. 20 channels/frequencies, and was the hottest thing in the mid to late 80s. I just payed out for a new battery to make sure it has power and it does, but Im not receiving anything. Its like its stuck in squelch on all channels without actually broadcasting anything over the speaker.

As far as I can tell the following status of some of the features is as folllows:
keyboard lockout,.. works
light,..works
pri,... works
l/o,... works

I turn on the scanner and it maintains memory of the channels programmed into it.

Volume returns no signal,
Squelch has no noticible effect.
When I press scan the unit advances one channel at a time and stops on each channel, nothing is heard.
Man exhibits the same as Scan.
Ear phone jack has no sound.

Id like to try getting this unit repaired. Can anyone direct me to a local or the closest place to LI where I can bring it?

Thanks guys.

Have you programmed a frequency (like 162.55) to see if it receives the weather?
Have you re-programmed any of the channels?

I have used G&G communications for repairs, in the past, and have been happy with him.

Thank you to the replier, that was actualy very helpful. Yes I had that frequency programmed in, but was not sure if it was active, now from your post I know that it is, and that confirms that there IS a problem, not thata the unit is too far out of date.

I've been directed to G&G, thank you for the positive feedback. I guess the LI repair curcuit doesn't exist anymore. But as long as G&G has a good rep then I guess I'll go there.
