Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know where else to put it in. I was wondering which scanner/s would be best for starters? I'm just recently starting to get into this whole scanner thing and I been listening to scanner broadcasts online but I want to start listening from an actual scanner. I mainly want to listen to the 6th Precinct SCPD as that is where I live around and SCFD. I don't need anything fancy, just a scanner to listen on what's going on around my area. Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at these two...

Uniden BC246T [link]

Uniden BC346XT [link]

Will either of these two be suffiecient enough to listen in on SCPD & SCFD?

Hey thanks for the reply. Will the two models I'm looking at do the job or will I need to go digital? I don't want to spend too much money as I'm just starting out.

Newbies,
Both scanners you picked out will work fine. The BC346xt is the new / replacement for the BC246T.

Both scanners are excellent and will work fine for you.

Be advised, neither will work for Nassau Police. They are moving to a P25 system, but there is no time line for the shift.

thanks for the reply w2lie. i went out to RS and bought a PRO-160 for $100. Read the manual, figured out how to program it. Pretty straight forward. Got it set to the 6th Precinct. Very happy with this purchase of my first scanner! Now, I gotta program SCFD. Thanks for those who replied.
