Looking for a base antenna to throw up in the attic
Would love to have great reception on UHF as most depts/police agencies around here are on that band.
Any suggestions? Phil recommend the ST-2 but i will not be mounting it high up.

I have a discone antenna in my attic. It doesn't work as well as an outdoor antenna, but it gets the job done.
Discone is sitting on the floor in the corner, so it is out of the way.
For an indoor antenna, I would suggest this over the ST-2 since the ST-2 may not fit in your attic. |

| how about utilizing the old t.v antenna on your roof....as listed in older post ive been using mine and works fine |

| Sadly i do not have an older TV antenna on the roof. I mean i think it's kind of ridiculous to spend 70$ on RS while the ST-2 costs 50$ with tons of coax |

If your talking about the ST-2 Scantenna, it's likely it won't fit in your attic unless you have a tall attic. On the contrary, you can always lay it on its side.
I'm a fan of the scantenna. I have one and it works well. Mine is also outside so I'm not sure how reception will be affected with it placed inside.
I'd definitely be interested in hearing what you went with and your observations. |

Well after researching, the scantenna will not fit in my attic.
I am down to the ST4 or maybe the Diamond D130. anyone? |

6 of one, half dozen of the other if you ask me. They are both the same type of antenna and the results shouldn't vary that much between the two. These are multiband antennas. If you are looking to focus more on UHF, you should get a UHF dedicated antenna and radio.
I picked up a couple of Kenwood UHF (TK-880) radios for real cheap on E-bay and they work great! Very easy to program (with the program and cable) and they also scan all channels unlike motorola radios that scan only 16.
Now if you are looking to listen to everything, than go for a multi band. Since you only specified one band, I would get a dedicated band radio with a dedicated band antenna for best results. My UHF is hooked into a discone and it still works better than my scanners. That is also b/c its tuned for UHF. I have a UHF antenna but no place to put it. |
