The ground is saturated with melting snow and runoff so I doubt we will be getting any real big brush fires at this present time.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a red flag warning... which is in effect until 6 PM EST this evening. Northwest winds gusting to 25 mph and relative humidities of 25 to 30 percent will lead to conditions favorable for the rapid spread of brush fires this afternoon... should any occur. Precautionary/ preparedness actions... Residents should keep vehicles out of grassy areas and ensure proper disposal of any smoking materials. It only takes a carelessly disposed cigarette to ignite a wild fire... and with the expected dry and windy weather conditions... a small fire could spread rapidly.

National Weather Service Doppler radar continues to show bands of heavy snow rotating around an intense area of low pressure moving into the lower Hudson Valley. These bands will impact parts of the tri-state area over the next several hours. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour... wind gusts up to 45 mph... and visibilities occasionally below 1/4 mile can be expected at times.
