Special Feed: New Years Eve Feed

nyc_timessq.jpgContinuing with a W2LIE.net tradition-
"Listen to the Ball Drop - From Behind the scenes" returns for another year, and will continue to do so each and every year!

Listen to ABC's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2019 from the Director's Chair.

Since 2007, W2LIE.net has brought the action from Times Square to you via our live feeds.

If we can hear the director link, you won't be hearing it "as it happens" due to streaming delays - but the sync should be close enough with Satellite delays for you to enjoy hearing the action while watching the live event!

Also in the feed is NYPD, FDNY, and DSNY.

Feed will be modified from time to time to bring you the best action from Times Square.

The feed will be live in the afternoon 12/31/19, and run well past midnight.

In previous years there was plenty of action on the feed after the sun went down. Camera crews and the director were hunting for "filler shots" to record and use during the live broadcast of the night's events.

Unfortunately, as of the last three years, it seems like the the link is now using a local repeater instead of the Citywide repeater.  If we are unable to locate the audio, we'll continue to operate the feed by broadcasting DSNY, NYPD, FDNY, and OEM operations.

How You can listen to the feed:
As in previous years, the feed on my "/special" stream.
From your computer: goto my Feed page at [link]
From ProScan: server=remote.w2lie.net port=5005
From your mobile device: download Scanner Radio Deluxe (apple) or Scanner Radio (android) and browse for W2LIE and look for the special feed.

73 and Happy New Years

File Download limits

Due to finally hitting the wall on our storage space,
All feeds will be limited to a two year archive

Right now we have 2 1/2 years of archived audio in our vault, and I've run out of room on the backup server.

This weekend I'll be putting in some rules to dump anything over 2 years old.

If storage still becomes a problem, I'll look at dropping the time frame down.

This limit is still more time than other sites out there that only have a 6 month limit on archived audio.

Thank you for your understanding.

Phil

NCFD-West and Battalion 3 Radio Upgrade Help

ncfd-feed_go_fund_me-2.jpg

It is time to upgrade the scanners

For the last 14 years, W2LIE.net and Monitor Long Island have been streaming Nassau and Suffolk Counties to the internet.

However, it is now time to upgrade the scanners that supply the "NCFD-WEST" and the Nassau 3rd Battalion Feeds

The NCFD-West feed is currently a BC780XLT and the 3rd battalion feed is an older scanner

We are looking to update both scanners to Uniden BCT15X scanner radios.

These will benefit you, the listener, by allowing us to remotely control and program these radios.

You see, right now it requires someone to physically be on site to lock out a channel or change a function.

And since upgrading to Windows 10 on the computer that serves both, we can no longer communicate with the BC780XLT to reprogram it. We were never able to communicate with the 3rd battalion feed

These upgrades will allow us to upgrade the older programming in the West and 3rd Feeds and bring everything up to date.

We are raising money for the following:
2 Uniden BCT15X Scanners
2 Unden USB Cables

After 14 years and paying for hardware and upgrades out of my pocket, this is a bit more than I can afford to spend at this time. I have never once asked the community to help support the hardware side, but the time has come to do so.

If there is anything left over in our pocket after buying the new scanners and hardware, we will donate the balance to the Nassau County Firefighter's Museum.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to keeping these feeds on for years to come.

Thanks again
Phil / w2lie
