Audio Archives in Jeopardy

theft.gifIf you have been following our Facebook page, you might have noticed a message this week regarding the "off site" storage of our Audio Archives.   The plan was to start backing up all the audio and serving the data forever.

The system was built using a Raspberry Pi and 2 USB Hard Disk Drives.  The two drives were setup to serve different purposes.   Only one of those drives were dedicated for the audio storage.  The old Linux Desktop was retired and replaced with the Pi to help cut down on the electrical costs.  So far I've been happy with the results of this setup, until now.

It seems that the audio drive has failed, or at least that is how it looks right now.  I cannot get the drive to mount, and it is showing no data on the drive.   It is a 3TB Seagate drive that has a 1 year warranty on it.  The purchase date was 12/26/13, so there is still a few months on the warranty.  I guess it is a good thing I never threw the box away.

There isn't much time to dedicate to this recovery as I would like to have at my disposal.  I will continue to plug away at the hardware, but it looks like most of the audio archives may be forever lost.

I guess a backup drive would have been a nice touch!
