Online Scanner FAQ This is a quick guide to get you listening to the online feed.
In order to listen to the online feed, your going to first need a way of listening to it.
Software that does not support Alpha Tags
| | If your running Microsoft Windows, you can use Microsoft Media Player. | | Software that does support Alpha Tags |
| If you'd like to see the alpha tags, you can download Winamp. This is the program that I recommend.
|
| If your running a PC or Mac, I have heard that iTunes will work just fine. | | And for those living in a Linux world, I do believe that XMMS will also get the job done! |
"But wait!" you say..."I installed winamp, and still loads [your program here] when I click on your feed"
You need to associate files back to winamp.
Open winamp, and hit Ctrl-P to enter preferences. Then, you can associate all media file types to winamp. You can limit it to just audio, or video also.
Make sure, to listen to this feed, you at least select m3u and mp3 extensions. This should get you up and running in just a few minutes.
A few more basic questions.... - How come when I try to listen to the feed I want, I'm getting a different Feed?
- I have the Icecast server setup so no matter what, you'll get a live feed. The Cascade works as follows:
- If NCFD-West is down, you Move to NCFD-EAST
- If NCFD-EAST is down, you move to Special
- If SCFD is down, you move to Special
- If SCPD is down, you move to Special
- If Nassau/Suffolk is down, you move to Special
- Why does the feed kick me off after 2 hours?
- I placed a 120 minute timer on the feed. If some one walks away from their PC, or the connection hangs, it doesn't prevent others from accessing the feed.
- What frequencies are loaded into your scanner?
- Why is it when I try and connect to one feed, I'm being connected to a different feed?
- The feeds are setup to only allow 10 users. If that threshold is hit, I have the server push you to a feed with less users. This way you don't have to hunt for an empty feed
- What is your current setup?
- The feed is setup on an AMD Sempron 3400+, with three sound cards, and six serial ports. I am running Simplecast and Icecast for the audio feed. The feed is being picked up by a discone antenna. The radios are:
- NCFD-EAST - Uniden BC898T
- SCFD - Uniden BCT8
- Specialty Feed - Uniden BC785d
- Remote Feeds
- NCFD-WEST - Radioshack PRO-2055
- SCPD - Radioshack Pro-xx
- NCFD/NCPD/SCFD/SCPD - Uniden BCT-15
Do you take requests for feeds?- Yes I do. The third feed is a specialty feed.
- I would like to add my feed to your website. Is there something we can work out?
- Shoot me an e-mail by clicking the 'contact us' link in the menu.
