Fres utac roll call
Dave3825us, Thu Sep 23 2021, 01:58pm

I never heard this before but caught FRES doing roll call with depts last night. From Melville to Yaphank. All divisions it seemed. It was also in analog.

453.86250 156.7 UTAC43/43D UTAC43 - Tactical

Fres was conducting a test of the county's interoperable communications abilities using the national interoperable channels. All departments west of suffolk fire rescue were to participate. The paper work also says east end interoperable channels will be rolled out with east end uhf paging in the near future. I had found out about it after the fact.

Does anybody know the new frequency FRES secured for UHF Paging East?

Re: Fres utac roll call
thehawk, Fri Oct 01 2021, 12:38am

I see 463.1875 listed on the same license that the original uhf east frequency is on. all locations are out east with 10,000 units paging. Also the buildout deadline was 9-21-21. WQUZ568 is the callsign. I'm not out that direction so I doubt I would be able to pick anything up. If someone out east could monitor and give an update if is or becomes active.

Sounds right. FRES was able to get an unused UHF Med channel, so that freq makes sense. Thanks

So fres east is now 463.1875 not 453.8750?

Its just speculation at this point. We need someone out east to confirm if that is the new uhf east frequency or not.

While I cant confirm its use, I can confirm I just heard tones followed by, "Fire Rescue Base, Testing, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Signal was a little weak but received in Islip Terrace.

Anyone catch a PL?

This will be the paging for FD's east of the William Floyd Pkwy.

I think they were getting too much interference w/Nassau Firecom on 453.875, which is why they switched. I think if they would have put a PL code on the freq, they would have been ok.

A PL only masks the problem, it doesn't solve it.

If anything, it's worse PL'd, because you may be getting interference from Nassau and might not even know it, resulting in degraded coverage. And of course there's the issue of Minitor pagers not being PL capable, so it really wouldn't matter if the transmitters are PL'd, the receivers are not and would pick up everything.

Frequency coordination for Suffolk to license 453.875 should've never happened in the first place. Not nearly enough geographic separation between the two simulcast cells, certainly not on such a flat expanse of land such as Long Island is.

Fix the issue by getting a new frequency...end of story.

I agree, 453.875 was a bad call in the first place.

So far I have not heard any activity with UHF east. We are still being activated on lo band. If anything changes I'll let you know.

hello again all
My understanding is that the towers in Yaphank ,Riverhead ,and Southampton are essentially ready to go. UHF paging from FRES for departments that are between those sites, may be starting soon. I received my UHF pager from my department and 463.1875 is the frequency programmed in. My Pine Barrens feed already has it programmed in just waiting to hear some activity on the frequency. When it comes up and/or if there are any changes I will let you folks know.

They are testing FRES East today. Picking it up on my feed.

Wonder if they are going to have an issue with interference on the new fres east channel from Connecticut. I've been picking up departments being paged out when the conditions are good.

... or for that matter, Ocean County, NJ. I get them (weakly) with PL71.9

I'm in the Islip area (if you couldn't tell by my name) and have not picked up East Paging at all. I pick up most uhf 6 div departments. Is this an issue on my part or is FRES no using the frequency?

463.1875 is not live yet it’s still in testing phase as the county gets more east end sites on the air. You may occasionally hear radio testing but no departments are getting activated on it yet

FRES will be conducting a roll call on UTAC43 this evening 6/29/22 at 1900hrs.

FRES Paging East is progressing. Obviously delayed by radio frequency changes and the pandemic but it is now rapidly moving forward.
