Suffolk County Reband - Final
w2lie, Mon Sep 13 2010, 04:39pm

As of 9/12/10, it looks as if Suffolk County completed their Rebanding process.

You should now set your Motorola banks to "Motorola Reband" instead of using custom tables.

The Control Channels for this system should be:
0851.3625
0851.4125
0851.6875
0852.2875

If you need custom tables, I will post them later.

Again - as of 9/12, you no longer need the custom reband tables.

Thanks to hcorte for the info (he also scored himself some "gold" for the update!)

Re: Suffolk County Reband - Final

So now what frequencies should be entered? ONLY the original reband ones? (everything 15nhz down?)

Re: Suffolk County Reband - Final
LI_Scan_Guy, Mon Sep 13 2010, 07:46pm

Yes, you can move Everything down 15Mhz, or just put in the 4 control channels that W2LIE posted. Just make sure to set the site to control channel only if you do that.

w2lie wrote ...

I concur hcorte. It also looks like the control channel is now on 851.6875, confirming it as an alternate.

I will now make this a new thread, and close "Phase-1"

At 5:35 PM today, I started to observe some frequencies in the 867-868 range again. Prior to 5:35 nothing in this area appeared. I have been monitoring most of the day. I still have the "mixed" band plan in my scanner and can still monitor any frequency they throw out now. Perhaps we spoke too soon.

Yes- you are correct!
I am watching the system now in Trunker, and I can see VC's up and down the band.

The Control Channel is bouncing around quiet a bit though...

I think I will merge the threads back togehter

Re: Suffolk County Reband - Final
scannerman5555, Mon Sep 13 2010, 10:56pm

now only seeing the 851 -854 band now only !

also picking up I-Call on this system now
i08190

For the new system it should look like this: [ Lower Base / Upper Base / Offset / Spacing(kHz)

Plan 1: 851.4125 / 000.0000/ 0 / 25.0
Plan 2: 851.6875 / 000.0000 / 0 / 25.0
Plan 3: 851.0250 / 854.0000 / 440 / 25.0
Plan 4: 851.0125 / 868.9875 / 0 / 25.0

If we keep our custom band plans we'll be covered. That's why I didn't change mine yet.

I still see 867-868 frequencies……..7:03 PM Control is 851.6875. The plan you posted wont get the 867-868 frequencies because they have a zero in the fourth decimal place.

I believe this plan (I'm using it now) will cover anything they can transmit:
(The first two lines are actually the new finalized band plan when re-banding is completed.)

Plan 1: 851.0250 / 854.0000 / 440 / 25.0
Plan 2: 851.0125 / 868.9875 / 0 / 25.0
Plan 3: 866.0000 / 866.9750 / 720 / 25.0
Plan 4: 867.0000 / 867.4000 / 815 / 25.0
Plan 5: 867.4250 / 868.9500 / 961 / 25.0
Plan 6: 868.9750 / 868.9750 / 958 / 25.0

PS…. The way they are switching things around today tells me that they are probably getting pretty close to completing the re-banding.

I've updated the front page to reflect the latest changes in Suffolk County.

The new reband tables should be valid once the full reband is complete.

I would suggest the BC346XT to replace your handheld.
That radio is about $215

If you wanted another Radioshack, the PRO-164 would be a good choice, and that will run $199

I can program both radios if needed.

No, the PRO-528 can not be rebanded.
As far as your 2nd question, your answer is 3 posts up, or one line down

Re: Suffolk County Reband - Final

All you need to do is enter in the control channels into the trunk system. There are no special flags or button presses to get that radio into CC only mode. You just simply enter the CC's and leave out the Voice Channels

Scannerman, Your tables look wrong to me for Suffolk County. I use the tables on the front of W2LIE's website and they work 100%. I've seen W2LIE verify how they work and how he came up with the info. Interesting stuff!

I agree as of 12:33 PM. 85x frequencies only over all 7 precincts. Control channel 851.6875. Lets wait until about 5 PM or so this evening, to see if any 86x frequencies reappear. That's what happened last time we observed this. Control just switched back to 851.4125.

I think it is pretty much safe to say that Suffolk is no longer using the "pre-reband" frequencies. I am still seeing them only on the 851.xxx - 853.xxx range only when I log the system using Unitrunker

You could, but it is a pain...

Assuming you already have a System setup for Suffolk Trunk, and in that System you have a site for Suffolk Trunk....

Menu -> Program System -> (your suffolk trunk system) Enter
Edit Site
Select your Site, hit enter
Roll to Set Frequencies, Enter
Enter new Frequencies (Control Channels, or all 22)
Scroll to Edit Band Plan, Enter
Scroll to Custom, Enter
Band Plan 1, Enter
Base = 851.0250, upper = 854.000
Set Offset = 440 polarity +

Then hit menu and go to Plan 2
Base = 851.0125, upper = 868.9875
Offset = 0, polarity +

Then you are done.

Re: Suffolk County Reband - Final
JABBER17, Wed Dec 15 2010, 04:10pm

I too had trouble programming my PRO-160 and PRO-162. You have to reverse the custom bandplan chart (below) from this site. I set mine up using control channel only, 851.36250, 851.41250, 851.68750 and 852.28750 and entered Plan 2 then Plan 1 and it works fine on both. To program control channel only scanning enter the 4 frequencies into the bank you are going to use as MOT trunk frequencies. Then program the custom plan into the scanner as follows, hit Function then Menu, select Trunk Option, Bank(where control channels are), Mot, scroll up to Set C-Ch Only - turn on then hit ENT, then scroll down to 800 MHz CH Plan, Custom, then enter Custom Range 1 as #2 on the chart below and then Custom range 2 as #1 on the chart below. Oh! And obviously enter the talk group ID's you want to listen to. Hope this helps!

Plan 1: 851.0250 / 854.0000 / 440 / 25.0
Plan 2: 851.0125 / 868.9875 / 0 / 25.0

I need some help. I'm using a BCD996T and cannot seem to get the Suffolk Trunked radio system to work. I'll hear one side and no replies.

My settings are as follows

MOT Type 2/P25
Status Bit - On
End Code - Detect
Digital End Code - Off
All 22 Channels entered

I've set it up sites as - Custom using the Bandplans in this thread, Standard 800 and Splinter 800. none seem to work correctly.

I'm using ProScan to program the radio and it offers to calculate the Upper frequency after entering the Lower frequency, spacing, and offset

I just cannot seem to get this right

Sorry to resurrect this old thread.

I have my old Radio Shack PRO-95 Dual Trunking handheld scanner that I had previously programmed years ago with the re-banded 851 to 853 range (22 frequencies) and was working fine. Recently, I noticed that while scanning, it shows all the active talk groups, but doesn't stop on them, it just keeps scanning. After I see the group pop up on my screen, it then plays on the SCPDNY.com cast. I've changed the Motorola 800 Mhz from NORMAL to OFFSET (Splinter). Any ideas what I'm missing here?

Win95 Program Screen below.

Thanks.

Re: Suffolk County Reband - Final
Dave3825us, Sat Jun 06 2020, 09:03pm

There are no longer 22 freqs on that system. The smartzone system only uses whats listed below. I would try removing any freqs from your programming that are not used any longer.
Suffolk County
851.0625
851.0875
851.2375
851.3625c
851.4125a
851.6875a
852.2875a
852.400
853.675
853.800
853.825

Also take note that there are certain freqs that the pro 95 will not receive any longer. You can still hear some traffic on that system but like 65 percent. I have a pro 95 myself.and still receive some traffic. There are people out there that will tell you that you cant with that scanner but you can. I will dig out my programming tonight and post it.

Here is a qoute from another site regarding pro95 and rebanding. [link]

Scanners that cannot have their firmware "flashed" so that updated trunking tables can be entered will still continue to track, but will not "hear" all the frequencies. The frequencies that cannot be received by legacy trunk-tracking scanners while in trunking mode are those frequencies that start with 851, 852, 853, and have a "0" (zero) in the fourth decimal place. If the rebanded system or site does not have any of these frequencies in the frequency pool, legacy scanners will be unaffected in their trunking ability.

Suffolk is moving to a p25 digital system and the smartzone system is operating in analog and p25 on some talk groups. The pro 93 and 95 will not decode digital.

Thank you Dave3825us.

Made the suggested changes and still not locking onto any TGs and playing them. Very strange.

Appreciate any other programming notes that you can share later on.

Yes, I am aware of the change that SCPD is making to P25 digital, Phase II trunking. I am in the market for a new handheld. Looking at either the Whistler TRX-1 or Uniden BCD436HP. They're quite a bit of money, but should last me a long time, especially since they can be updated with various firmware, etc.

Thank you again.

Try changing the Motorola 800 MHz setting to Normal, not Offset.

As Dave notes, the scanner will not be able to follow all traffic due to the channel changes brought on by rebanding. Specifically, it will not be able to follow voice traffic on the four highest frequencies listed (852.400, 853.675, 853.800, 853.825)

Here I am, back again. Thank you to the previous guidance given by members here.
I pulled the trigger and bought a new Whistler TRX-1. Updated the firmware right away before any programming.

After setting up the 11 SCPD trunking frequencies below and the talkgroup IDs, the TRX-1 is scanning through and not locking onto a transmission, similar to what my PRO95 is doing. When I compare this to what the SCPDNY.com rebroadcast picks up, I'm seeing most of the TG's/conversations, VC & CC on my screen, but that's it, no audio. Any other suggestions or something I am missing from the more experienced members is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
